The new Permanent Representative of the Republic of South Sudan to the United Nations Office at Geneva, presented his credentials to Michael Møller, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, on 1st September, 2016.
Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Ambassador Arop had been working as the Director General for Administration and Finance at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of South Sudan since 2012.  Before South Sudan’s secession from Sudan in 2011, Ambassador Arop served as Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment of the Government of Southern Sudan from 2010 to 2011, and as a Diplomatic Adviser in the Ministry of Regional Cooperation of the Government of Southern Sudan from May to September 2010.  From 2010 to 2012, he was a member of the delegation of South Sudan in the negotiations with the Government of Sudan for the resolution of outstanding issues concerning the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, (CPA).
Ambassador Arop worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sudan, before South Sudan’s secession from Sudan, from 1975 to 2009.  He was the Ambassador of Sudan to the United Republic of Tanzania from 1996 to 2000. Also he was Ambassador of Sudan to the Republic of South Africa from 2004 to 2009, and concurrently was Ambassador to the Kingdom of Swaziland, Kingdom of Lesotho, Republic of Namibia and the Republic of Mauritius. 

Ambassador Arop served at the Permanent Mission of Sudan to the United Nations  in New-York from December, 1989 to July 1991; Embassy of Sudan to the Republic of Italy and the Permanent Mission to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the International Fund for Agricultural Development from March, 1978 to August, 1983. He served in the Embassy of Sudan and Permanent Mission of Sudan to the League of Arab States in Tunis, Tunisia, from November, 1985 to September, 1989. Amb. Arop served in the Embassy of Sudan to Libya from September, 1989 to December, 1989. He also held the position of Director in various Departments in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Headquarters of the Republic of Sudan including the Departments of: Legal Affairs, Human Rights, Administration and Finance and European Affairs.

 During his career, Amb. Arop represented the Republic of Sudan in numerous International and Regional conferences, including United Nations meetings.
Ambassador Arop has a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) (HONS.) from the University of Khartoum, Faculty of Law (1969 to 1974) and was a member of the Sudan Bar Association.  He also undertook post graduate courses in the international legal studies programme at New York University, School of Law (1990 to 1991).  He was born on 20 January 1949 in Abyei.  He is married.
